I’m by no means an expert here, but I know the USA destined cars were severely restricted so that they could comply with the emissions law back then.

Perhaps the few that exported did not have those restrictions imposed?

Either way, looks like a nice car - even if it’s a little on the rich side for me.

They were all destined for the USA.... All cars are/were the same from the factory, as far as emissions/fuelling etc. is concerned. There were a few with subtle differences - e.g. "Canadian Spec" with metric instrumentation. There have been references to "Euro Spec" over the years, but this was never anything actually produced properly (except I suppose for the 4 (3 RHD, 1 LHD) prototype conversions/auctioned cars)
The main differences with the Middle Eastern cars were the use of surplus stock parts on the batch of 50 that went over - nothing that would affect performance. More details here: viewforum.php?f=103

**But** However.... Apparently the 25 cars that went specifically to Kuwait did have their catalytic converters removed, because there was no unleaded fuel available in Kuwait. So there is perhaps a small element of truth in this.... Performance is a little better with no catalytic converter.

Here is the history thread for this car: viewtopic.php?f=103&t=2289

All ME cars has the cats removed as there wasn’t any unleaded fuel available there.

Cats removed meant the cars went faster

All ME cars are black interior automatic transmission
Identical specification
Last time I saw the car it looked like it needed some stuff doing - but £42k is a way off in my opinion

Sorry Arran , I missed your reply re the CATS

EDIT!

As it’s ex Kuwait - should be £45k
