I'll be making one of these in the next week or so and it seems a quite simple job, for one i don't see the point in making it out of stainless, how long do you want it to last for? and secondly i can't see how it can cost over $250 nzd when i think it would only cost about 40-50 nzd to make, it is only a piece of pipe with a bend at one end and a flange on the other, am i missing something?

Depends on how much you value you time - but yes - that's about it.

want a cheap solution...

1) Purchase a 3 bolt flange repair kit (~$20 on Amazon)
2) Remove cat and install in flange on end of down pipe.
3) purchase flexible exhaust pipe and 2 clamps (all in about $20 again available on Amazon)
4) Join flange to back box with flexible SS exhaust pipe

Done for $40

FACT OF THE DAY! (thanks to my Uni course) :D

Stainless is normally used because of sound resonance, due to the density of the material caused by it's molecular structure, it is better for channeling low toned sounds (such as the sound of an engine). It also looks nicer over time. 8-)

Please note the below are just examples of the parts needed these are not necessarily the correct sizes/diameters/length etc... But it shows that these parts do exist and with a little creativity you could cobble together a cost effective alternative.

It might not be pretty but then it is about 1/3rd of the price

Note That in my previous post I thought you needed a 3bolt flange, which is quite widely available, that's because I have an SS system installed on my car on which the cat deletion pipes are 3 bolt items. The OEM connection to the catalytic converter is a 4bolt flange so below is based on the 4-bolt items.

Rather than the end of the month, I am expecting them in about 1 month. They are being made right now - but where and how long before they get to Ed, and then to us I don't know for sure.
I don't know how many we'll get, but it will be a few anyway I'd have thought.

They will be back in stock on Friday / possibly Thursday night.
