Hi All

I "might" be getting my hands on a project car with no engine. If anyone has one (possibly in the UK) and is willing to sell please get in touch.

Thanks!

Alan

I have a complete running, MOT'd (Volvo) car (with the "correct" B28E engine) that I would sell, although not that cheap unfortunately. If you mean literally "no engine" then you might need a DeLorean crankcase and sump/oil pan too though (depends on whether the car is missing these too??), again I have these too, again not cheap.

How much is a B28E worth these days Arran? :)

Less than this Volvo owes me I would say ;)
All depends on provenance and/or how certain you are that the block is good enough. Dan S for example has been through what 3 blocks(?) trying to find a suitable one for his tastes.
I would pay (and have paid) £500-£750 for a complete engine with heads with a shagged block (depends on how complete). A running complete engine with a good chance of a having a good block would be in the region of £1250-£2500 I would say, with the £1250 end probably pushing the definition of "running" and "complete".
Last sale that I know of a "good" engine" was a complete (previously running) engine (with DeLorean crankcase and sump - and full history) for £2000(+VAT), and that was 2 years ago. Even that engine was then completely stripped down and rebuilt (and loads of stuff replaced on it!) and is now powering a car successfully.

These correct (i.e. not the B280) old Volvos are becoming really rare now. With the "cool factor" of Luther etc ;) there will come a time where people are buying old DeLoreans to rip the engine out of to stick in Volvos I reckon ;)

As an example - here is one that sold for £4000 ...... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163824996373

Another one, 116,000 miles - I assume it sold - for £2500 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183902143331

Gone are the days of picking them up for £500 :)

It's amazing the difference 10 years makes isn't it? There was a time Volvo 760s were plentiful and none of us considered that down the line it would be hard getting hold of venturis, dizzys or engines themselves. And second hand Volvo dealers were happy to give them away for beans too. I got mine in July 2010 for £250+VAT from Braydon Motors, and that was a 48k miler that came out of a tidy 760.

Having said that, it was rare to see a 760 with mileage that low then. But at least there were more on the road - if you look at howmanyleft.co.uk, there were 1,000 760GLEs kicking round ten years ago. Now just 10% of that - and most of those aren't even the B28E, they're the later EFI engine.

Alan - have you been in touch with Chris N? He might have an engine or two kicking around...

So whatever it costs to get hold of a good one now, it's a pretty good bet that it'll be much more again in a few years. Grab them now whilst you can!

Don't say that, the closet hoarder in me would have one for just in case......

Correct. Even one that looked perfect in the valley actually had rot down the side of one of the liners, so you never know until you completly strip it down.

I do have enough internal parts and even heads to build a stock (B28F) delorean engine but no block to put them all in.

The Italians have managed to build a B28 using a B280 block. I believe they had to use the oil pump and cylinder liners out of the B280 then everything else is B28. But it seems a shame to strip a B280 just for it's block when it is actually a better engine, unless you can get hold of a knackered one.

I think the seller has a Renault flywheel, sump, and oil pickup as well as a donor engine (late cross-bolted B280e 170hp in original tune).
