Double Glazing - anyone in the know?

Postby Manxmann » Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:22 pm

Hey chaps,

Anyone know anything about double glazing?

I'm struggling to replace the beading on a small window, approx 11"x8". I've put in the two 'short' sides but cannot bend the 'Long' sides enough to get both ends in.

Anyone have any tips/tricks, I've managed to get all the other windows in, its just the darn little begger thats causing all the trouble.

Cheers

short ones in first, and tap them all in with either the rubber end of a hammer or plastic hammer of some sort , you must put both ends in first then push and tap TT

Yes like tone said put the sides in first normaly but just depends on which ones are a straght cut on the ends could be top and bottom you must get the lip of the bead under the lip in the frame then normaly push it down tight with one hand and smack the f##ker like hell with the other side of you hand ( don't worry the glass won't brake) job done.
If the window brakes and you cut your hand off it's your fault ;)

It sounds daft, but run a HOT bath, drop em in for 10 mins, then rush to window and fit. They'll bend easier.

Once finished, stand back, admire then take a free bath.

Cheers gents, knew I could rely on you guys for some advice.

Yes I'd put the two short ends in but just couldn't bend the long, if you can call them that, sides enough to get both ends in. I was worried I'd break the little f*ckers.

I will give them the hot water treatment a try in the morning.

Hi Manx,

It will be easier if you take out 1 of the short lengths. ie,
1. put in bottom (short length if portrait window)
2. put in 1 side
3. put in top
4 put in last side.

This way you will have only 1 length thats awkward to bend and get in. If its only 11" long I'd put it in a bucket of boiling water for a couple of minutes.

Good luck. :D

I have been in double glazing for 25 years and my tip is to snip the inside of the inside of the beed and spray with glass cleaner and use a plastic mallat but i some time still have problems just put the beeds back the way they come out.
