Free Road Tax

For anything else not specifically DeLorean related....

Granted; my opinion/observation may seem extreme, but I do know of insurance companies that failed to pay out on Porsche insurance claims if the car did not have "N" rated tyres (N-rated is Porsche approved) even though the tyres were in very good condition, plenty of tread and Z speed rated.

I'm sure the same law will apply to MOT exempt cars as in accidents where the driver of a modern car is prosecuted for bald tyres at the scene. It's all about roadworthyness, and in such a case your insurance is void.

Early days yet, but I'm sure if the insurance companies can find a way of not paying out they will. The new MOT exempt law will open the flood gates.

As for other countries without MOT, their insurances are tailored to suit the law of the land. I'm sure though that if you skidded, hit someone and killed them because you had bald tyres, you'd still be responsible for your cars condition.

I think you give them too much credit Darren. Here on the island there is no 'Insurance Tax' to pay, every single time I take out a new policy, even renewals on occasion, I have to remind the insurance company to deduct it from their final premium.

I'm convinced that many think you simply jump in your car and drive all the way to the Isle of Man.

I just can't see why one car needs an MOT and another perhaps only a year older doesn't ...

That's an interesting point about the insurance. I must ask.

I'm sure in your scenario in GA, you would get a ticket from the police for baldy tires and a subsequent lawsuit from the victims family.
