Do you have a date for when you want the car to be on the road again Alexakos? Seems like no stone is being left unturned here...!

Not all stones unfortunately. But as many as possible.

I do wish to have it done by Christmas. It all depends on the parts supply from the us. I am currently hanging due to that.

Cheers

But to everyone!

Do consider a weekend joint grease change if you haven't got a clue when it was ever done on your D.

It is a minimal cost job, yet pretty messy. Have plenty of paper at hand or old clothes for it.

Minimal skills required.

Aaah Photobucket working again.

Ok.
Placed frame against the wall to have a better working angle of the lower side and most rust affected.

Started removing welded covers to clear of rust.

Image

Rust be gone
Image

this is a very slow process cause I needed to paint the interior parts with antitrust primer. and the each part that is to be attached from the inside also.
Image

Forgot to take a picture of the internal column I added for stability and durability (adds also about 4 Lbs to the front of the car :P) Hence the welding spots.

Speaking of welding... my TIG tool
Image

and finally the first front cover of the frame. Two more to follow at the front tips for stability to strengthen them.

Worked on the original MOMO steering wheel adapter today. You may recall I purchased off Ed in Illinois, the ebay chrome GM steering adapter.
Well The casted metal this was made out of, was to weak to accept any welding. So I created an adapter for the adapter, and for the turn signal pins, I had to drill wholes in the back in order to have custom made pins screwed in.

Images:
Front:
The diameter of the adapter was to wide so I crated a stainless plate with additional screw holes to have the wheel fastened on. Plus took off 1.5mm to have the centre of the momo wheel fit into it
Image

Rear:
You see the custom turn signal pins. This will be further adjusted as soon as I try to fit it on to the column. Also took off 3mm on the rear of the adapter to fit into the steering canopy
Image

Took images while driving it to the powder coating for a rough mate black.

Short by time did not manage much today.
First, did a quick gauges refurbishing. Well, I was hearing a clinging noise inside when I sway it around and seemed like something was loose. Fortunately it was just one of the anchors that hold on to the temp gauge. No biggie.

Image

So I also exchanged all bulbs with LEDs...

On to the garage, I took a look at the rust friendly roof under the T panel. To my surprise, that is one of the VERY few things, that was almost rust free.

Image

Image

With the doors down, I too the opportunity to clean it up from the minimal rust points and prepared for painting it tomorrow.

Lubed the door hinges.
While I was at it, I also lubed the steeling column joints.
Sprayed the lube
Image
Moved the joint frequently to have the rusty joint's juices come out, cleaned it with a cloth, and the resprayed it. That I did over and over again until no more brown stuff came out.
Image

Did the same with the gear selector.
Image

Did then some bench working by cleaning out the water pump adding new seals and gaskets

Finally, got down to removing the brake caliper cylinders. Nothing pretty in there either....
Image
Image

And the process of HOW TO remove that cylinder;)
Image
Easy peasy! Just take two screwdrivers and leverage them out slowly. (An article I read mention it was a big issue. Not really)

I like seeing the picture and your hard work, because it made me think back at the days when I was restoring my DeLorean. It makes me happy to see you going forward with so much enthusiasm, just as I did at the time. Your restoration is also much deeper and (may i say) more professional. Since i got ill i never got the chance to do any work, fortunately i was almost ready except for recovering my seats.
