Special T Auto - Shopping List

Postby Chriss » Fri Dec 26, 2014 5:12 pm

Hey Danny

There is a wealth of info on this forum, as Andy mentioned he was good enough to post up his findings on real seals. On the clutch front find a Renault specialist, not main dealer, for the clutch alignment tool as Renault used to supply one in their 3 piece kit or failing that talk to Kevin or Lee @ GTO.

Is your rear main seal leaking at all? A wise mechanic once told me if its not broke don't fix it but understand the sentiment as your already in there. Worth getting your flywheel skimmed over while your there too in the case.

BTW Rob Grady is/was selling struts at a discount for Christmas, might be worth checking out

On the stainless front have you spoken with Chris Nicholson? He might be able to help, his work is amazing! :)

And new flywheel bolts if you are going to be OCD about it!

Obviously the door struts we stock better versions of, the clutch parts actually come from here...., likewise any gaskets are UK sourced.... Typically 'upgraded' means sourced from the UK!
Everyone knows Hervey is a complete tool, unfortunately too many people are too scared to speak out, here comes my lawsuit lol.
It is really about time we stocked that seal - is that link the one we need to stock people??

Firstly, thanks to all - The response to this has been great.

1. My end seal has definitely gone and for those nay sayers - mine was leaking from the inside lip and through the outer part. But I knew my oil leak was from this seal as Chris Nicholson told me back in 2013 when he did some work for me. Therefore It had been on my list to do after my epic euro trip to Bulgaria. Although my oil leak was also coming from the bottom part of the ally plate where there is no gasket. should there also be some bolts & a gasket on that part?

2. Andy - thank you find the offer of a loan, but like yourself I want to have the tools for my workshop so I shall invest in a bearing puller - at £20 it isn't worth the hassle if your was to go missing in the post.

3. My new valeo clutch kit is on its way to me from somewhere in France and it might come with the plastic alignment tool that people elude to, so I was waiting to see what was in the box before ordering. The clutch was, like most others find, worn to the point of the brass nubs, which had scored the pressure plate only. My flywheel was in perfectly good condition but I have been given a lightened flywheel from a friends alpine which was never fitted so my aim was to use that and see if it made any difference. My only concern being a lumpy idle but if it is terrible it will just have to come out! (makes it sound like an easy job but one has to try it to find out).

4. The wolfhead tool would be for my ability to do light re-grain work. Chris Nicholson is amazing and is not expensive, he quoted circa £1k for full re-grain which is good value, but at the time money was tight and so I have differed it (probably to 2016 now - why do people feel the need to get married in Sri-Lanke, grr friends!).

5. I think I will end up buying all the bits from Ed@ DMC.eu as I had initially intended, but I was drawn in by the clutch bleeder and low $ prices Hervey offers. Why the double lip diff seals are soo expensive from Ed I am not sure.

6. Reinz rear seal - I have a friend with family in the car parts business - he was going to see if he can get hold of this seal and if so I can get a few and send them to arran for the club if the price is right.

Today I will be making another tool like Darren did for the diff castle nut - mmm grinding fun!
If anyone can recommend an exact link for the speedi sleeves for the drive flanges that would be great.

Hi Darren, although you've had response from others about the vendor, we still appreciate you putting the offer in about combining an order to minimise costs. This is in true spirit of helping each other out so thank you for that :D

The lightened flywheel sounds interesting. The engines are odd-fire so so have an inherent "lumpy" sound, but the idle can be ruined or with some tweaking.

I'd love to see some pics of the gearbox out.

Keep up the good work

the tool will be available for anyone to use once i have my gbox back together. Admittedly it is not as professional and pretty as the photos i have seen of Darrens. but it works, and did not damage any of the castles.

Daniel.
