Don't throw anything away, parts can usually be reconditioned out someone else may want it.

vin is 3643. im sure that reveals something to someone smarter than me!
yes its a mighty auto, im now purchasing a new metering head as I took mine apart, after this it should ( I say should lol) start finally!
ive just printed a very large wiring diagram so this should come in handy. front suspension is very high at the moment, front end of the chassis is rotten so il have to buy/ fabrivcate and weld up parts myself. as for the other parts im yet to see, its going to be a frame off job, im just rather impatient! :)
pictures soon!!!

Not 3643, surely? Oh, you mug!!!

j/k

The VIN can be useful in determining whether certain recalls were done, or if it a particularly early car (your's isn't) that can have their own Idiosyncrasies

Yeah, the metering head painted up makes for a great paperweight on you work desk, and can always be refurbed by Ken Mills Injection if you run out of papers to weigh down.

Posting on behalf of Alex, who is now experiencing transmission issues... As you will see from the video, the car starts up and will idle absolutely fine. However, as soon as he puts it into gear he can hear a horrible whirring noise quickly followed by the car stalling...

Not experienced this myself, anyone have any clues as to what it could be?

I think the engine is possibly struggling under load

I thought it moved ok in gear? Which would rule out the gearbox ? Or doesn't it move at all?

Yes, it moves apparently - albeit not very far before giving up!

I got a bit impatient and have decided to go ahead with the frame off.
its now in 2 pieces! after a lot of work and jacking up, its finally separated. ive removed all pipework from chassis and am now working on getting the engine and gearbox out so I can get them looked at and rebuilt. I plan on replacing all the pipework, brakes, suspension, everything aswell as welding the chassis myself and then having pained with POR15 paint as ive heard this is the best. people have mentioned galvanising the chassis however knowing what the process involves as a metal worker/fabricator and welder ive had experience where because of the extreme temperatures used to galvanise I think that the frame would twist under the heat, and seeing as the chassis isn't fully welded and just stitched in places I don't think il go down that road. I have loads of pictures, mainly so I can put it back together right lol!!

If you don't want to go the full galv route there is an alternative - I had mine electro-zinc coated. Doesn't use extreme temps nor involve adding tonnes of weight to the chassis. http://ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/metallisation/

After you do the welding might be worth getting it shot blasted then coated before you slap on the POR15?

Many people including myself have galvanised their frames with no issues.

For the amount of work in stripping the frame along with the low cost of galvanising (And the lifetime protection it provides), imo its the only way to go.
