I bought mine in '99 (which rhymes) so that makes me a winner with my 16th year :dmcdoors:

Hi, my name is Bill, I am originally from the United States, although for the past 5 years I was residing in the North of the United Kingdom. I came over to this country because of my profession, and didn't intend to stay as long as I have. I am now settled in a lovely neighborhood in Blackheath, Suffolk.
I have been interested in Deloreans ever since they made the Back to the future Trilogy, and I hope to own one soon, but judging by the prices I might source one in the U.S. I have been hoping to buy one for along while, but because of my work commitments it was difficult as I didn't know how long I was going to stay here. My Partner and I have decided to stay in the United Kingdom, for the near future anyway, so I thought I would treat myself and get the car I always wanted

HI Alistair, now I know about my job obligations, I know I will be residing in the United Kingdom for a while, I can eventually continue with my plans that were on hold and buy a Delorean!!!! I haven't really started looking properly yet, although I might compare the markets with the U.S. against the U.K. and see what my options are. I don't know whether I want one with a normal transmission or a stick shift. I don't know if that's right because in the United Kingdom normal is stick shift, Right????

Yes although many are switching to automatics as they are easier to drive with traffic and left hand driving.

There can be some good options importing , but if it goes wrong you can end up spending more than it would have cost to buy a 'sorted' and registered car which is already here

Bill, whereabouts in the North of UK did you originally live? I'm from the North of England (Yorkshire) and we too have our unique customs and ways :)

"Stick shift", we call them "Manuals" as in Manual transmission (or "gearbox").

Manuals are the norm, Autos are secondary, usually to do with the emission banding of cars and the economy of running them as fuel (petrol ;) ) is more expensive over here.

Autos are more desirable and preferable in the Delorean as I've got one. We nickname them "Mighty Autos" due to the fun banter of manual vs auto gearbox superiority. Nothing is said in spite of which gearbox type is better, as the Delorean as a whole is shit. There you go, another example of fine British humour there. We know the cars are old and slow, but we still love (and hate) them just like we do with our other halves (as in partner)

Anyway, enjoy. When you do get a Delorean you wouldn't find a fonder bunch of people who would gladly help each other out sourcing bits parts tech advise etc etc. Don't forget that currency for help in our culture is to usually buy the person you helped a Pint or two of beer.

If you don't understand any phrase just ask and I'll translate any colloquialisms. Chuff, I can't believe this Northern git here said colloquialism.. don't tell my friends. ..

Hi Admin-Bloke, we were renting accommodation in a place called Hornby. I had no intention of staying in the United Kingdom, my Job brought us here. What was meant to be a couple of months, we ended up staying longer and longer, but as we didn't know how long we were going to be here for, I couldn't continue with my plans and purchase a Delorean, but now we are settled I've decided to go forward and do this, otherwise I will be waiting forever!!!!
Hornby, was a lovely village, nice and quite, I had never been out in the suburbs before, it was mean't to be temporary as I was working between Heysham and Hartlepool at the time.

So, about purchasing a Delorean, one with an auto tranny would be better than stick???
