Bill, whereabouts in the North of UK did you originally live? I'm from the North of England (Yorkshire) and we too have our unique customs and ways

"Stick shift", we call them "Manuals" as in Manual transmission (or "gearbox").
Manuals are the norm, Autos are secondary, usually to do with the emission banding of cars and the economy of running them as fuel (petrol

) is more expensive over here.
Autos are more desirable and preferable in the Delorean as I've got one. We nickname them "Mighty Autos" due to the fun banter of manual vs auto gearbox superiority. Nothing is said in spite of which gearbox type is better, as the Delorean as a whole is shit. There you go, another example of fine British humour there. We know the cars are old and slow, but we still love (and hate) them just like we do with our other halves (as in partner)
Anyway, enjoy. When you do get a Delorean you wouldn't find a fonder bunch of people who would gladly help each other out sourcing bits parts tech advise etc etc. Don't forget that currency for help in our culture is to usually buy the person you helped a Pint or two of beer.
If you don't understand any phrase just ask and I'll translate any colloquialisms. Chuff, I can't believe this Northern git here said colloquialism.. don't tell my friends. ..
