If there's no difference between the two, then my method is correct, and in my opinion, simpler.

Good post by Rissy about the steering wheel being centralised prior to adjusting the track rod end.

One thing to add, is centralise the rear wheels to the imaginary centre line of the car first, then set the front to rear along the same centreline.

Don't allow the garage to set the front to rear parallel thrust angles add the rear track is wider than the front and will finish up with offset wheel (5 degrees to the left) and bump steer. This is mainly for optical/ laser passive alignment.

Hunter alignment machines are great to prevent this, assuming that the operator has set "rim run out" compensation on and does actually adjust the rear....

Thanks all, will check my lock to lock, and see what needs adjusting prior to Norfolk.

The car MUST be okay now, if I am faffing about with how the steering wheel sits!

I also went and bought speakers today!! Never thought I'd get to the point where the terrible stereo sound was next on the to-do list...

And then build my boxes for the front footwells

(Haven't looked in the fuse box for a while... )

I used exactly this method this year to set up the front wheel alignment after a clutch change, gearbox rebuild and front shock replacement on my Honda Civic. Worked a treat. Never had to take it to the garage.

I've never done it on any other car.

OK, with the driving wheels dead ahead, I have 1 and (about) a quarter turns lock to lock each way.

Just the wheel sits a bit off centre at straight ahdeal and correspondingly is the same amount off at each of the stops.

So I reckon the wheel has been moved at some point. Which makes sense as the guy will have set the car for the road wheels (Hunter), and not been concerned about the steering wheel position. Makes sense.

I will get it sorted at "Steering wheel Tec"! (Thank you in advance!)
