new member in DK - need EU declaration

Postby antileon » Sat Dec 05, 2015 12:39 pm

I am a importing 5707 from US. The DK goverment requires that I can provide a declaration of conformity to meet EU standards to get i registered.
Is that something that also is required when importing a US car to UK and can anyone help me with a copy of such a document.
Thanks

Hi and welcome

We don't need that certificate over here as the car is too old to need it

The tax to register a car is massive, I have 'Lotus' friends in Copenhagen who have to pay like £12k just in tax

Where about's are you in Denmark?

I am in Skanderborg
The cost of importing is 5 % duty of invoice value, then comes tax. because it is considered a veteran next year the tax is reduced to around 6K pound in my case.
new cars are 180 %. Its more like a fine.

I know a friend just paid 114,000 dkk (£11k!) for registration plates on his 25 year old Lotus Esprit although the tax authority originally wanted 185,000dkk! He did say there is a possibility for cars over 35 years to have the tax greatly reduced but then the car is limited to when/where it can drive on the road.
He also just mentioned to me they have changed the tax starting this month saying the tax can range from 180% of the import price for high end cars down to 105% for cheap cars.

I went over to visit some friends in Copenhagen earlier this year and several of them drove their cars on the temporary paper plates that are like £20 for 3 days but are very strict on use, mainly used for say taking your car to be repaired etc, even having a passenger can cause the police to impound your car!
Guess we don't have so bad after all!
