'New' DeLoreans

Postby A Van » Mon Dec 07, 2015 9:32 pm

Well it might actually now happen... See here

https://www.sema.org/news/2015/12/04/re ... se-new-law

And taken from James Espey Facebook

This is the news that we had been hoping for which will legally allow us - and the way the law is written, us alone - to do low-volume production of "replica" DeLoreans, with new VINs, new drivetrain and other new features.

Exciting times ahead!

I can just hear it now - "is that one of them there kit cars?"

And why does it permit only DMCH to make them? There are several companies that make Cobra's, and more to come no doubt, so why not the same for DeLoreans if the demand is there?

I can't say I've read it, but I'd assume it would actually be harder (if not impossible) to import one of these into the UK, as it would be judged as a "new" car - i.e. would have to shape up to new standards, loads of stuff wouldn't pass. Plus of course a shed load of tax.

Lesson 1 - stick to NOS parts where possible, or known quality replacements (i.e. the UK lower balljoint).

I would much rather pay a bit more for a decent part, than for some cheap piece of crap that doesn't perform the job as well as the original, and/or falls to bits within a short period of time.
