This is interesting. They've spent some money on making that film - and I don't think they would unless they were actually planning on doing something about the 'new' new builds. So maybe not just a PR stunt after all?

Slightly surprised about their choice of hero car though - one with ropily aligned non-OEM headlights, pea shooter exhausts that spit petrol, and AUTOMATIC gearbox?!!!

And yes Thomas, what's with that first shot of the door opening? Wings-a-loft or no, looks like it's fucked to the casual observer.

Sounds like one of the better cars your describing there Gez, no wonder they used it for filming - much better than a stock one ;)

It's still something that is promoting the main business though, so it's still win-win. Also they are no stranger to high production values of late - it's possible they have the ability to do some of this in-house or friends/family? Or not.. I dunno.

The website is a user-editable WordPress template - this one - http://themeforest.unitedthemes.com/wpv ... /extended/ - nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't necessarily need a lot of money, if they have someone in-house who is good with computers.
EDIT: having said that, there is a web designer credit at the bottom of the site, so maybe it has been done by a professional, but presumably for a low-ish price, or bundled with other work.

See this video which is just a caliper rebuild video from them - high quality production going on here - one could argue that's cost them a fair bit too no? All to make a video to tell you how to do something for free?:

The caliper video is nicely done, but cheap to do. The promo one isn't, it's a proper production - with locations, tracking vehicles, camera rigs. Perhaps done by a friend, but one who works in the industry and there's still a lot of associated kit and production costs with it. A lot of money and effort. Which is why I'm surprised that hero car is the best one they could find for it!

So the target market for these $100k cars is a 20-something who throws money away and doesn't need a radio with a faceplate :D

Or just someone who wants to look like a 20-something who throws money away ?

Of course it is easy for us owners to pick apart the video and the car used, but I don't think we are the target market.

As for the website, there are plenty of computer geeks/website designers/movie makers who are owners; wouldn't be a stretch to see some sort of partnership there.

As for this whole project, I'm not sure how I feel about it - I am glad about the $100k price point. If you could get a 350HP car for $50k, then my paltry 130HP car, even with an auto, would start to be worth less. I don't think they are just doing it to use up their existing parts inventor as that would be a good way to go out of business fast. So I will watch with interest.
