Mat Nickles old one was welded in those spots, he might have a photo.

I think the idea is this wouldn't happen quickly enough so I take TT's to put on my engine and then I'd replace his with either a repaired version of my one or another if that's not possible... But in any case you'd hope a repair would be strong enough to take fresh stiff mounts!

Has anyone ever welded one successfully before ?

Best bet is to take it to somone who works with alloy and get them to have a look, I'm sure it could be sorted with a little research.

I'm sure the casting it'self is probably made from a poor quality alloy (as Jay said) they usually are, but that doesn't mean it can't be fixed by the right person.
