That VR6 conversion over on dmctalk would be the ticket. It leaves plenty of room around the engine unlike some of the V8 conversions, and it must weigh a fair bit less too.
The VR6 is impressive, but under powered in NA form (170Hp in later OBDII form). A better one would be the enlarged 3.2 VR6 in the R32 (250Hp) or better yet US R36 (270Hp).

If I hadn't gone for the Legend-style engine I would have tried swapping in a W12 from a first-gen Phaeton. Would probably do horrible things to the weight distribution and be hell to integrate, but it would be awesome.

Naaa my engine is OK Dan, well OK ish, its pissing oil out of everywhere, only starts on 2/3 cylinders every now and then and I just thought it might be nice to have sumit a little bit more 'turn key'
